Cape Fear Museum of History and Science collects, preserves, and interprets the history, science, and cultures of the Lower Cape Fear Region. Founded in 1898, it is the oldest history museum in North Carolina. The Museum presents a detailed chronology of the history of our region, the 20-foot-tall skeleton of Wilmington’s Giant Ground Sloth, the hands-on Michael Jordan Discovery Gallery, and several changing exhibit galleries. Cape Fear Museum presents a host of history and science programming for children, families, adults, and school groups throughout the year. The Museum is a New Hanover County department and receives funding through the North Carolina Grassroots Science Museums Collaborative. It is the only museum in southeastern North Carolina accredited by the American Association of Museums and is also a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers.

Since 1935, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (originally called the Soil Conservation Service) has provided leadership in a partnership effort to help America’s private land owners and managers conserve their soil, water, and other natural resources.
NRCS employees provide technical assistance based on sound science and suited to a customer's specific needs. NRCS also provides financial assistance for many conservation activities. Through the Conservation Technical Assistance (CTA) program land-users, communities, units of state and local government can receive voluntary conservation technical assistance for planning and implementing conservation systems.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s mission is working with others, to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. The Service helps protect a healthy environment for people, fish and wildlife, and helps Americans conserve and enjoy the outdoors and the nation’s living treasures. The Service's major responsibilities are for migratory birds, endangered species, certain marine mammals, and freshwater and anadromous fish.
