The Natural Shift: Longleaf Conversion Over Time
Ready to move your forest back to its true nature? Converting to longleaf pine is a natural decision that takes planning and intention.
Many existing forest stands in eastern North Carolina are located in prime longleaf pine habitats. Natural fire exclusion, old field succession, and market forces have all contributed to the dominance of intensively managed, or naturally regenerated, stands of loblolly pine in the region.
This workshop will cover methods and best practices when converting to longleaf while maintaining a pine overstory. Content is designed for natural Resource professionals and extremely knowledgeable landowners.
Participants should be capable of climbing in and out of 15-passenger vans.
Workshop Locations and Dates
April 3, 2018 (Tu) 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Loblolly to Longleaf Conversion Workshop at the Moore County Extension Office, Carthage, NC.
April 5, 2018 (Th) 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Loblolly to Longleaf Conversion Workshop at the Brunswick County Extension Office in Bolivia, NC.
Registration and Payment
Seating is limited for these workshops so advanced registration and payment are required. Please see the two registration types and fees for these workshops. Deadline to register is before March 31, 2018 or until seating is full. There is no guarantee that seating will be available for walk-ins.
$20 fee for forest landowners which includes educational handouts, refreshments, lunch and tour transportation.
$50 fee for natural resource professionals which includes educational handouts, refreshments, lunch, tour transportation and CFE Certificate from Society of American Foresters.
