New Game Lands and Nature Preserve on the Waccamaw River!
Flowing approximately 140 miles through southeastern North Carolina into eastern South Carolina, the Waccamaw River is considered one of the Southeast’s wildest and most beautiful rivers. A sportsman’s and paddler’s paradise, the area also delights birders seeking sightings of rare warblers and swallow-tailed kites. The Waccamaw River has been designated a National Blue Trail by American Rivers to promote outdoor recreation and conservation along the waterway. The ~3,000 acres of land purchased by the Coastal Land Trust connects 20,000 acres of the Columbus County Game Lands with 17,000 acres of The Nature Conservancy’s Green Swamp Preserve, resulting in one of the largest conservation corridors in the state of North Carolina.
